Good Grief was beautifully restored by Robinson's Restorations in 2001, after which the boat was entered in the Lake Tahoe Concours Wood Boat show, where it won "First in Class". After the show, the boat was delivered to Mike & Kathy Scroggie on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, where it has resided for the past sixteen years.
Good Grief (hull # 48688 and engine # 10931) was manufactured by the Chris Craft Company and shipped on January 10, 1940 to Wilmington, California, configured for high altitude use. The owners suspect it was destined for use at Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino mountains. The boat was purchased by Tim Robinson in 1999, and he began a meticulous 18 month restoration.
Chris Craft only made Barrelback Runabouts from 1939 - 1941, after which they converted to WWII production. Therefore, these classic boats are in limited supply and highly sought after.
Good Grief has been carefully maintained and had a full engine (Hercules M, 130 HP) rebuild in 2011. It starts easily and runs well. The boat comes with a trailer, full cover, spare prop, six life vests and an anchor, as well as full documentation and maintenance records.
